ER, urgent care or an IV clinic? How to choose, honestly.
An IV clinic is great for some things and the wrong place for others. Here’s how to tell, from a nursing team that would rather send you to the right place than take your money.

Three places, three jobs.
The right choice depends on how sick you are and whether you already know what’s wrong.
Emergencies
- Chest pain or trouble breathing
- Confusion, fainting or a seizure
- Vomiting blood, or severe or one-sided belly pain
- Signs of stroke: face drooping, arm weakness, slurred speech
- The worst headache of your life, or a headache after a head injury
- Heat illness with a very high temperature, or hot skin that has stopped sweating
- Bloody diarrhea, or a fever above 102°F
You need a diagnosis
- A new or unexplained illness that needs tests
- Possible infections that may need antibiotics
- Sprains, small cuts and injuries
- Children of any age
- Symptoms lasting more than a few days
- Anything you’d want a prescription for at the pharmacy
You know what it is
- A stomach bug or food poisoning, and you can’t keep fluids down
- A hangover
- A migraine, if you have a known migraine history
- Dehydration from heat, work or training
- Run down during cold and flu season
- Adults who can walk in on their own
What we do in the suite
Registered nurses place your IV and stay with you. A licensed provider reviews your history and orders what goes in your drip, including medication for nausea, headache or pain when it’s appropriate. Every price is posted, and most visits are under 90 minutes.
See stomach flu, food poisoning, hangover, migraine and dehydration IVs.
What we don’t do
We don’t take X-rays, run same-day lab results, set bones, stitch cuts, treat children or work up new, unexplained illness. We don’t do detox or withdrawal management. If you need any of that, we’ll tell you, and point you to the right place.
Not sure which one you need? Call or text (559) 338-5503. A nurse will give you a straight answer, even if the answer is “not us.”
Three steps, safety first.
Call or text first
Tell us your symptoms. If it sounds like an ER visit, we’ll say so before you drive over.
A real health review
History, vitals and what you’ve already taken. The provider decides what’s safe.
Watched the whole time
A registered nurse stays with you. If something changes, we stop and get you the right care.
ER, urgent care or IV?
Is an IV clinic cheaper than the ER?
Usually far cheaper, and you’ll know the price before you sit down. At I Vie, IV fluids are $100 and most symptom drips are $250 to $300. But price never matters more than getting the right care: if your symptoms are on the ER list, go to the ER.
Can an IV clinic diagnose what’s wrong with me?
Not the way an ER or urgent care can. We don’t run same-day lab results, take X-rays or work up new, unexplained illness. We help adults with problems they already understand, like a stomach bug, a hangover, a known migraine or dehydration.
Do you treat children?
No. Children should see their pediatrician, urgent care or the ER.
Can I come in with a fever?
Call first. A fever over 102°F, a fever with a stiff neck or confusion, or a fever that keeps climbing needs a doctor.
Do I need an appointment?
Same-day appointments are usually open. Call or text and we’ll tell you the next chair. We’re open until 7 Monday to Thursday, until 6 Friday and 10 to 4 Saturday.
What if I start at I Vie and it turns out to be serious?
Our nurses watch you the whole time. If something isn’t right, they stop and send you to the right level of care, and call 911 when needed.
Reserve a time without the checkout.
Leave your name, number and a good time. The desk confirms by text, usually within the hour during clinic hours.
