What a hangover actually is
Alcohol makes your body pump out more urine, so you lose fluid faster than you drink it. That mild dehydration drives the thirst, fatigue and headache. Alcohol also irritates your stomach and wrecks your sleep, even when you pass out fast.
Symptoms hit hardest once your blood alcohol drops back to about zero, which is why you feel fine at midnight and terrible at 9 a.m. They can last 24 hours or longer.
What an IV can do, and what it can’t
Straight talk, because most hangover IV ads skip this part. No hangover remedy has been scientifically proven to cure a hangover, and only time fully clears one, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
What an IV does well is rehydrate you fast and bypass a stomach that keeps sending water back. When ordered, anti-nausea and headache medication can take the edge off while the fluids go in. Many people feel better once they’re rehydrated. It can’t make your liver work faster or give you back the sleep you lost. We would rather tell you that than oversell it.

- Book the morning after before the night starts. Hours: Sat 10 to 4, Mon to Thu 9 to 7, Fri 9 to 6.
- Back-to-back events? Put the day-after drip on the calendar before you leave, so Monday doesn’t pay for the weekend.
When it isn’t a hangover: call 911
Alcohol poisoning is an emergency, not an IV-lounge visit. Call 911 if someone who’s been drinking has any of these:
- Confusion
- Vomiting that won’t stop, or vomiting while barely conscious
- Seizures
- Slow breathing (fewer than 8 breaths a minute) or gaps of more than 10 seconds between breaths
- Blue, gray or pale skin
- Low body temperature
- Trouble staying awake, or can’t be woken up
Never leave a passed-out person alone, and never assume they’ll sleep it off.
How to make the next one smaller
- Fewer drinks, slower. The more you drink, the worse the hangover. The only sure way to skip one is to not drink, or keep it light.
- Skip “hair of the dog.” Another drink might blunt symptoms for a bit, but it can drag the hangover out.
- Darker liquor hits harder for some people. Bourbon and other dark spirits carry more congeners than clear spirits.
- Eat before and during. And alternate with water.

How fast will I feel better?
The drip itself takes about 30 to 60 minutes. Many people leave feeling more hydrated and clear-headed, but everyone’s different and we don’t promise a timeline.
Can I come in while I’m still drunk?
No. For your safety, come in once you’re sober. Our nurses may reschedule anyone who arrives intoxicated.
Do you come to my house or hotel?
Not right now. All IVs are given in our private north Fresno suite, so a nurse and provider are on hand.
Will insurance cover it?
Hangover IVs are elective, so plan on paying out of pocket. Interest-free financing is available for eligible patients.
Is it safe?
IVs are given by registered nurses after a quick health review. People with kidney disease, certain heart conditions or fluid retention may not be candidates.
