Valley heat is a different kind of hot
Fresno summers run long, and the hottest stretches push past 105°F. Field crews, roofers, coaches, delivery drivers, golfers and anyone without good air conditioning lose fluid faster than they can drink it back.
Our own records show something we didn’t expect: on 105°F days, fewer people book, even though that’s when dehydration is most common. People wait until they feel bad. The better move is to rehydrate a day or two before the heat peaks, and to come in early or in the evening.
What an IV does, and what it doesn’t
An IV puts fluids and electrolytes straight into your bloodstream, which is why it helps when your stomach won’t hold water or you’re far behind after a long day outside. A registered nurse watches how you respond the whole time.
It doesn’t treat heat stroke, kidney problems or illness, and it isn’t a substitute for water, shade and rest. Many people feel better once they’re rehydrated; results vary.

Heat stroke is an emergency.
Move the person somewhere cool, cool them with water, and call 911. Don’t drive them to an IV clinic.
- Confusion, slurred speech or acting strangely
- Fainting or a seizure
- A very high body temperature, or hot skin that has stopped sweating
- Can’t keep fluids down and getting worse
- Chest pain or trouble breathing
Get ahead of 105.
Watch the forecast
When the week shows 105°F or higher, plan your drip for a day or two before the peak.
Come early or late
Morning and evening chairs are easiest in the heat. We’re open until 7 Monday to Thursday.
Keep drinking
An IV is a head start, not a replacement for water and electrolytes all day.
Dehydration questions
Can I get an IV for dehydration in Fresno?
Yes. IV Fluids start at $100 and Basic Hydration with vitamin C is $140, given by registered nurses in our north Fresno suite after a quick health review. Same-day appointments are usually open.
What are the signs of dehydration?
Thirst, dark urine or not peeing much, a dry mouth, headache, feeling tired or dizzy, and muscle cramps. Kids and older adults can get dehydrated faster.
When is it an emergency instead?
Call 911 for confusion, fainting, a seizure, a very high body temperature, hot skin that has stopped sweating, or someone who can’t keep fluids down and is getting worse. Those can be heat stroke or severe dehydration and need emergency care, not an IV appointment.
Is an IV better than drinking water?
For mild dehydration, drinking water and electrolytes usually works. An IV helps when you can’t keep fluids down, when you’re far behind after a long shift in the heat, or when you want to rehydrate quickly with a nurse watching.
Should I come in before a heat wave?
Many people do. When the forecast hits 105°F, book a day or two before, come in early or late in the day, and keep drinking water through the heat.
Who shouldn’t get IV fluids?
People with kidney problems, certain heart conditions or fluid restrictions may not be candidates. Everyone is screened first, and the provider decides.
