Why people choose us

The same care. A calmer room.

Many people are sent to a hospital infusion center for iron. You have another option: a locally owned, physician-directed infusion suite with nurses who are experts in infusion therapy, including hematology and oncology experience.

  • A private chair in a spotless suite, not a crowded infusion bay.
  • Scheduling that fits your week, including evenings and Saturdays.
  • A registered nurse with you from the first stick through the observation period.
  • Given under the direction of a licensed medical provider.
  • IV fluids are given with your iron, and most visits take about an hour.

How it works

Three steps to your infusion.

1

Book your iron consult

$100, credited toward your infusion. Bring current labs from your own doctor, or we’ll draw them here. Results take about 48 hours.

2

We write the order

Our medical director reviews your labs, history and medications. If an infusion is right for you, he orders it and we give you an exact price.

3

Your infusion

Often the same week your labs come back. Settle into a private chair for about an hour: roughly 30 minutes of iron, plus IV fluids, with your nurse monitoring you throughout.

When iron infusions are used

Iron deficiency is diagnosed with blood tests, and most people start with iron by mouth. A provider may recommend IV iron instead when:

  • Iron pills cause stomach upset or constipation you can’t tolerate.
  • Your body isn’t absorbing iron well, for example after bariatric surgery or with certain digestive conditions.
  • Your iron needs to come up faster than pills allow.
  • Ongoing blood loss, such as heavy periods, keeps outpacing oral iron.

Whether an infusion is right for you is a medical decision made by a licensed provider, based on your labs and history.

What to bring

  • Current lab results, such as a CBC, ferritin and iron studies, if you have them. If not, we can draw them here.
  • An order from your own provider, if you have one. It isn’t required.
  • A list of your medications and allergies.
  • Something to read, and a snack if you like.
Not sure which labs count or whether yours are current? Call (559) 338-5503 and we’ll walk you through it.
Questions

About iron infusions

Do I need a doctor’s order for an iron infusion?

You don’t need to bring one. What we must have is current labs. Bring them from your own doctor’s office, or we can draw them here and have results in about 48 hours. If your labs support it, our medical director can write the order.

How long does an iron infusion take?

Plan on about 60 minutes. The iron itself runs for about 30 minutes, and we give IV fluids with it.

How many infusions will I need, and how long does it last?

It depends on your labs. Some people need one infusion and some need more than one to bring their levels up. How long it lasts depends on your body; for many patients it is about 8 to 12 months. Your provider will recheck your labs.

How much does an iron infusion cost?

You start with a $100 iron consult, and that $100 is credited toward your infusion when you start. The infusion price depends on your labs, which set the dose, so your provider gives you an exact price once they have reviewed them, before anything is scheduled. Iron infusions done on a Tuesday are 10% off. Interest-free financing is available for eligible patients.

How soon will I feel a difference?

Everyone responds differently. Iron stores rebuild over weeks rather than hours, and your provider will usually recheck your labs to see how you responded.

What are the side effects?

Some people notice a headache, nausea, a metallic taste, muscle or joint aches, or changes in blood pressure. Serious allergic reactions are rare but possible, which is why a registered nurse monitors you during the infusion and afterward.

Can I get an iron infusion while pregnant?

That decision belongs to your obstetric provider. If they order an infusion, call us and we will review the order with our medical team.
